MODELING OF MAIL DELIVERY BUSINESS PROCESSES IN THE CASE OF LAST MILE CARRIERS’ INTERCHANGEABILITY

Abstract

Introduction. The relevance of economic and mathematical modeling of practical problems in postal logistics is driven by the rapid development of parcels transportation and the parcel-format goods delivery over the past decade. Purchases of cosmetics, household goods and appliances, clothing are increasingly and comprehensively moving to the online format, leading to a stable increase in the volumes of services provided by postal and logistics companies. On the other hand, and as a result, the importance of economic and mathematical modeling of mail delivery business processes is determined by the need to justify the economic strategy of postal and logistics companies. This strategy should be built not on assumptions but on scientific conclusions, as this is the way to economic success and prosperity. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to study the process of overloading the capabilities of the operational system of a postal and logistics company and the corresponding relevant economic and mathematical modeling of such a process, to build a mathematical model of managing the postal items distribution in the case of last-mile carriers’ interchangeability. Methods. In the article were used the methods of analysis and synthesis in the part of the study of the causes of overloading in the operational system of the postal and logistics company; the economic and mathematical modeling methodology in the part of building an economic and mathematical model of managing the postal items distribution in the case of last-mile carriers’ interchangeability; the graphical modeling methodology in the part of developing of a general algorithm of postal items receiving by customers during the peak loads periods. Results. The result of economic and mathematical modeling of the process of overloading the postal and logistics company's operational system capabilities and the construction and use of the above-mentioned model is the improvement of the postal and logistics company's strategy, which guarantees the economic security for the postal and logistics company during the periods of operational system peak loads. Conclusion. To build an economic and mathematical model of managing the postal items distribution in the case of last-mile carriers’ interchangeability, a modified transport problem was used in conjunction with the variant problem of optimal enterprise replacement, and the strategy of the economic behavior of the postal and logistics company in the peak season was mathematically substantiated, what leads to the optimization of the company's overall economic activity.
