ENERGY SECURITY OF UKRAINE: CHALLENGES OF WAR AND PROSPECTS OF RESTORATION OF ECONOMIC POTENTIAL

Abstract

Introduction.Ukraine’s energy security is a key element of the country’s stability and economic development, especially in the context of modern geopolitical challenges. Military aggression against Ukraine not only destroys infrastructure, but also creates long-term threats to energy independence. The article examines the main problems that Ukraine faces in the energy sector, including damage to critical infrastructure, resource shortages, and dependence on imports. Purpose. The main objective of the article is to identify key challenges to Ukraine’s energy security in wartime and outline the prospects for restoring the energy sector to ensure sustainable economic development. The study is aimed at analyzing existing risks and developing strategies to overcome them, including infrastructure modernization, diversification of energy sources, and the introduction of innovative technologies. Methods.To achieve the goals set, the article uses a systematic approach that includes statistical data analysis, expert assessments, and comparative analysis of international experience in the field of energy security. Forecasting methods were also used to identify potential scenarios for the development of the situation. Results. The article highlights the main challenges, including the destruction of infrastructure, problems with electricity supply and the lack of financial resources for recovery. At the same time, key prospects are identified, such as integration into the European energy system, the development of renewable energy sources and increasing energy efficiency. Recommendations are developed for a recovery strategy that provides for international support, financial investments and legislative support. Conclusion. Ukraine’s energy security is an important condition for its economic growth and national security. To effectively solve problems, comprehensive approaches are needed, based on international cooperation, innovative technologies and effective resource management. The prospects for restoring economic potential directly depend on the stabilization of the energy sector and its adaptation to new conditions.
