Abstract

Introduction. Quality education as the fourth global sustainable development goal, which includes a commitment to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, accelerates progress in achieving all the sustainable development goals. In the global trend, each country defines specific tasks and benchmarks for sustainable development in higher education, which is the basis for the formation of a system for managing the sustainable development of higher education institutions, taking into account the processes of digital transformation. The purpose of the article is to substantiate the theoretical and applied foundations and identify current trends in managing the sustainable development of higher education institutions in the context of digitalization. Methods. The methodological basis of the study is the fundamental provisions on sustainable development and digitalization and the use of systemic and functional approaches in the management of higher education institutions. The methods used in the study are: generalization and scientific abstraction, analysis and synthesis, empirical methods of scientific knowledge, systematization. Results. The main objectives of sustainable development management in higher education institutions are as follows: organization of the educational process, training and education of young people in sustainable development skills; internationalization of education and research, cooperation with partners in building a sustainable world; planning and development of a strategy and agenda for sustainable development of higher education institutions; professional development, incentives and motivation of staff; control, monitoring, evaluation of the quality of achievement of sustainable development goals and objectives and dissemination of positive practices for their implementation. Conclusion. Complementary digital transformation and the implementation of the concept of sustainable development as an objective reality in global and national socio-economic systems and at the level of regions, industries, corporations, institutions and organizations shape the narratives of higher education in a far-sighted perspective. Therefore, the formation of educational and scientific ecosystems of higher education institutions included in global, European and national sustainable development policies will contribute to the achievement of a balance of economic, social and environmental components of human development for future generations.
