ACCOUNTING FOR BANKING OPERATIONS IN THE CONTEXT OF FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT: TRANSITION TO AN EVENT-DRIVEN APPROACH

The development of financial technologies, the growth in the volume of digital payments, and the integration of banking systems with modern information platforms are driving the transformation of approaches to accounting for banking operations. The increasing complexity of financial processes, the acceleration of transaction execution, and the need for real-time data processing necessitate the transition to new accounting models capable of ensuring the continuous recording of financial events. The purpose of this study is to analyse the features of applying an event-driven model of accounting for banking operations and to substantiate its relevance in the context of the digitalisation of banking activities. The study employs methods of theoretical generalisation, analysis and synthesis, modelling, abstraction, and formalisation, which made it possible to examine the structure of the event-driven model, its functional levels, and the mechanism of its practical application. The paper substantiates the necessity of expanding the accounting object through the inclusion of digital events arising during the processing of banking operations and demonstrates the feasibility of transitioning from a model focused on recording completed transactions to a model based on the continuous representation of events. An event-driven accounting model is proposed, which involves recording each stage of an operation as a sequence of events and includes the operational level, event level, accounting (ledger) level, and projection level. The accounting of a client’s non-cash payment is examined, illustrating the transformation of business events into accounting entries and the formation of information projections. The main advantages of the event-driven approach are identified, including enhanced control, increased process transparency, expanded analytical capabilities, and improved risk management. The originality of the study lies in the development of a comprehensive logical model of event-driven accounting for banking operations, which integrates the principles of modern information technologies with classical accounting approaches. The practical value of the results consists in the possibility of applying the proposed model to enhance transparency, control, analytical capacity, and the effectiveness of risk management in banking institutions.
